About the project
This is an international and multidisciplinary project which involves kindergarten, primary and secondary students (3-14 years old) in knowing, first, their own territory and its cultural potentialities, for then discovering the cultural heritage of the partners from Europe who take part in the project. All the partners are located along an European cultural and historic route: pilgrims routes or cultural itineraries, with a particular connection to the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. The motivation of the project takes inspiration from the European Year of Cultural Heritage. It wants to involve the new generations in discovering the value of European Heritage as a mean for raising the European identity and citizenship, in a period in which it is in danger. In the first part of the project each school partner will study its territory by working on the cultural route it is connected with, being constantly connected with the other partners through the use of the E-twinning platform. They will use also digital media and will produce an application for mobile devices who could be used by a tourist who wants to discover the cultural route. In the final period of the project there will be real and virtual exchanges between pupils and teachers from all the involved countries, for sharing experiences and doing together the cultural tour prepared by each school in the different Countries, using and testing for the first time the multimedial guides produced by each partner, with similar standards, studied by the teachers involved in the project. The value of the project, besides the cultural meanings, is in the experimentation of new teaching and learning methodologies with European pupils which involve the learners in activities which could develop their initiative, creativity skills and the contact with the territory in which they live. We want also to give the opportunity to face with the school and life experiences of the peers of the other European Countries which take part in the project, revitalising the spirit of collaboration and solidarity between European people. Values which Europeans, of every provenance, cultural background or belief, need to rediscover, in this difficulty moment of European Union way. The project should be funded because it increases many different skills and competences in pupils and teachers, such as the knowing of their own territory with a multidisciplinar and open approch, the entrepreneurship in organizing a cultural tour, the ability in using new digital technologies. Furthermore it opens the new generations to the European dimension and citizenship with the concrete exchange of experiences and with a deep knowing of different European cultural backgrounds.
